Celebrations
"I want to share you the wonderful news of my consult student. He arrived just two weeks ago and has easily integrated into our routine. I just finished the HM Assessments and he is able to count to 40, recognizes the numbers from 1 to 10 and recognizes and names all the letters of the alphabet. When I compiled the class results I saw that he is at the top of the class.
Socially he's doing great. He came to our class with an open heart and all the children responded by opening their hearts to him. It's amazing to see new friendships develop.
The other day we were discussing "Community Helpers". The children were asked to draw their favorite community helper and he asked if he could draw "Batman". I told him that he was a fictional superhero. He responded that Batman and all superheroes always help everyone in the community. He drew Batman in his journal and surprised me by writting "BATMAN" with no assistance!!!! He made me so proud of him.
These children you send me always become a special treasure for me. I never tire of seeing them overcome. Thank you for thinking of me when you have to place a child. "
Ms. Morles, VPK teacher at F. S Tucker (child orignally from Valerie Gloria's inclusion class at Citrus Grove)
"Ms. Jean-Jacques' kind ways have truly helped (my consult student) to adapt to a consult model environment. He has learned and identifies many letters and numbers. He stays on task during small and large group and follows the daily routine. He was definitely ready for the VPK program. It is a pleasure to have him in my class."
Ms. Mora - VPK at Banyan Elementary
"The children come from Pre-K SPED well prepared and they feel right at home since we have similar routines in VPK.
They know how to play and communicate with their peers. The children from PRIDE always come to my class so prepared!"
- Frances Acosta, VPK Teacher at David Fairchild Elem. (children originally in the classes at PRIDE: Paula Blair and Patricia Becquer)
"Having a child with disabilities in the classroom can be a challenge, but yet a blessing. Throughout my seven years of teaching, I can proudly say that five out of seven students have moved from exceptional student services to a regular classroom. It's incredible to see how mainstreaming, with the appropriate accommodations, can change a child's growth. I am all for the the consulting teaching model...its a great way to see every child shine!
- Mercy Sanchez, VPK Teacher at Citrus Grove Elem. (child originally in Valerie Gloria's inclusion class)
